UV curing treatment offers one of the best solutions for print drying. It is an instant drying process, reliable, ecologically cleaner and easier to use.

The evolution in the power of UV lamps

The power emitted by UV lamps has more than doubled from about thirty years ago to the present day. The standard power was approx. 80W / cm. Today, the lamps have a power of 160W / cm. For a UV lamp to work effectively, it needs a higher voltage than what is provided by the normal industrial network. For this reason, transformers are used to increase the voltage to appropriate values. Depending on the length of the lamp and its power, the voltage can rise to thousands of volts.

How long does a UV lamp last?

The mercury UV lamp does not suddenly turn off. These can work for thousands of hours. Even so, it is possible to observe a decrease in its effectiveness over time.

The life of a UV lamp depends on the following parameters:

1. Quality of the same lamp.

2. Efficiency of the cooling system.

3. Cleaning the tube.

4. Frequency of the on / off cycle.

Counters are commonly used to evaluate the life of a lamp. And a regular change of lamps is advised after a certain operating time, which can be 1,000, 2,000 or 3,000 hours, depending on the circumstances.

On the other hand, it is necessary to take into account the temperature that the body of the UV lamp resists, the circumstantial parts and the temperature of the machine must be kept at tolerable levels, to avoid damage to the overheating system of the parts and the support (dimensional stability).
